New York City based The Pilecki Institute USA is seeking a practical, technically skilled, and reliable Events&Facilities Technician to support the technical delivery of the Institute’s exhibitions, lectures, panel discussions, film screenings, seminars, receptions, and other public programs.
Working closely with the Events Coordinator and Facilities Manager, the role will be responsible for event setup and breakdown, audiovisual equipment, sound, lighting, video recording, and the technical readiness of event spaces.
The position will also support the day-to-day maintenance of the Institute’s facilities and equipment, including minor repairs, installations, painting, and other light maintenance work. Basic IT support experience is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Event & AV Support
• Prepare event spaces and ensure all technical requirements are in place.
• Set up, operate, and troubleshoot AV equipment, including microphones, mixers, speakers, projectors, displays, cameras, lighting, and related cabling.
• Connect and troubleshoot laptops and other devices using HDMI, USB-C, adapters, and other common connections.
• Operate sound, video, and lighting during lectures, panels, screenings, and other events.
• Support video recording and other basic event documentation.
• Conduct technical checks before events and resolve AV problems quickly during live programs.
• Set up and break down rooms, including seating, tables, staging, equipment, signage, and other event infrastructure.
• Maintain AV equipment, cables, adapters, tools, and related supplies in good working order.
Facilities & Maintenance
• Carry out minor repairs and maintenance of office, exhibition, and event equipment.
• Perform light maintenance, including painting, patching and repairing walls, mounting equipment and signage, drilling, assembling furniture, and installing fixtures.
• Identify maintenance issues and coordinate with external contractors when specialized work is required.
• Assist with exhibition installation and deinstallation, including mounting, equipment setup, and other practical tasks.
IT Support
• Provide basic troubleshooting for computers, monitors, printers, Wi-Fi/network connectivity, and other office technology.
• Assist staff with routine hardware and connectivity issues.
• Coordinate with external IT providers when issues require specialized support.
Essential Qualifications
• Demonstrable hands-on experience operating AV equipment in a live setting, such as a cultural venue, conference center, house of worship, school, museum, or corporate environment. Formal qualifications are not required; practical experience is essential.
• Practical knowledge of audio systems, including microphone selection and placement, gain structure, mixer operation, and troubleshooting feedback and signal problems.
• Confidence with video and display connectivity, including HDMI, USB-C, adapters, resolution, and aspect-ratio issues, and the ability to connect a wide range of guest devices at short notice.
• Practical repair and installation skills and confident, safe use of hand and power tools.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and take projects from request to completion with limited supervision.
• Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required by the events calendar.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience providing basic IT or technical support.
• Experience with video recording, cameras, lighting, or livestreaming.
• Experience supporting exhibitions, galleries, museums, theaters, or other cultural venues.
• Familiarity with basic networking, Wi-Fi, printers, computers, and office technology.
• Experience coordinating with AV, IT, maintenance, or building contractors.
• Interest in working in a cultural and public-programming environment.
